Grill London

The brief

A 300 m² grill restaurant in Klaipėda whose owners wanted exactly what the name promises: the feel of a great London brasserie — established, layered, a little theatrical — transplanted to Lithuania’s port city. The interior had to seat large numbers comfortably, handle the pace of a busy grill kitchen, and photograph as memorably as the food.

The concept

The design leans into honest, hard-working materials that London pubs and brasseries have trusted for a century: exposed brick, patterned black-and-white encaustic tile, dark timber joinery and brass. An oxblood-marble bar runs the room’s length as its social spine, while arched niches with channel-tufted banquettes create intimate rooms-within-the-room under ring chandeliers. Olive trees, vintage rugs and a split-flap departures board add the collected, been-here-forever character that makes commercial restaurant interior design succeed — atmosphere guests remember and return to.

Materials

Reclaimed-look brick, encaustic cement tile, oxblood marble, dark stained oak, channel-tufted velvet and suede, blackened steel mesh and aged brass — durable hospitality materials that will only look better with wear.
